Zhong Ying was born in 1995 in Longyan, Fujian Province. In 2023, she graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Nantes & Saint-Nazaire in France, her Master's degree with "Mention". Her artistic practice consistently revolves around the theme of documenting and expressing personal history, and she believes that preserving personal memory is a powerful way to prevent the individual from disappearing into the world. In recent years, she has made the eternalization of individual life memory the core pursuit of her work, seeking to give lasting vitality to personal memories through art.
Zhong Ying believes that every person is the narrator of their own history. She holds that the process by which an individual revisits their own experiences through oral history is a means of transforming their life story into a "personal myth." In doing so, individuals not only reflect on their own self-perception, but also articulate a unique understanding of their place and meaning of existence in the world. For this reason, she places strong emphasis on the subjectivity and independence of those being recorded, striving to present their perspectives on the interaction between self, time, and environment through their own narratives.
Her works incorporate abundant visual elements of transparency and blur—an artistic response rooted in her reflections on the nature of memory. She sees memory as a relationship between forgetting and imagination, and as a sensation that feels infinitely close to reality yet remains intangible. Through video and installation, she explores the complex and delicate connections between time, memory, and individual experience, gradually developing a poetic artistic language.
